- About "Tenants" in Microsoft 365
A "tenant" is equivalent to a "dedicated space" for organizations, such as corporations and universities, to use Microsoft's cloud service, Microsoft 365.
- Features of a Tenant
Independent Management Domain
・It is divided by organizational units, such as corporations or universities, and is completely independent of other organizations. Each organization is allocated its own storage area for files and other data, allowing information to be shared within the same organization.
・When an organization subscribes to Microsoft 365, a tenant is automatically created.
User and License Management
・Tenant administrators (such as IT administrators) can manage user accounts within that tenant and configure access permissions for Microsoft 365 services (such as Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint).
Secured Environment
・Each tenant is isolated, ensuring that data is never mixed with other organizations.
・Users whose accounts are registered in one organization's tenant cannot use that account to access another organization's tenant. (Except when invited as a guest.)
- Microsoft 365 Services at Kyoto University
・Although multiple tenants exist at Kyoto University, the Institute for Information Management and Communication (IIMC) has set up a tenant in which all members are registered (the "Kyoto University Microsoft 365 Tenant", hereinafter referred to as the "KU-MS Tenant").
・In this KU-MS Tenant, individual faculty, staff, and students can use the services by using their Microsoft 365 accounts linked to their university-wide accounts (in the format of "***@ms.c.kyoto-u.ac.jp" for SPS-ID holders, and "***@st.kyoto-u.ac.jp" for ECS-ID holders).
・Licenses for Microsoft Office and other software are also allocated using this KU-MS Tenant.
