RDM Drive
RDM Drive service started on May 15, 2025.
This service will be available free of charge until FY2027.

Kyoto University RDM Drive is an online storage service provided by the Institute for Information Management and Communication (IIMC) for storing and sharing research data generated during research activities.
Features and Benefits
- Storage space for research projects is provided.
- If faculty or staff members apply for the service, students and collaborators from other institutions can also use it.

Before You Begin
- Please review the following regulations regarding eligibility and usage:
- Submission of an application is regarded as acceptance of these terms
- This service will be available free of charge until FY2027. A usage fee is expected to be introduced starting FY2028.
- The service may be unavailable approximately once a month (generally on the first Wednesday morning of each month) due to maintenance. Users will be notified in advance.
- Project members can view information about other users within the group. If you use the service for multiple research projects, it is recommended to submit separate applications for each project.

Usage Fees and Servoce Plans
Details of usage fees for FY2028 and beyond will be announced once determined.

Data Protection
Data in this service is stored redundantly across multiple storage nodes. The system includes file version management, uninterruptible power supplies, and backup generators for power protection. However, off-site backups are not provided.
Trash Function
A trash function is available, allowing recovery of deleted files for a certain period of time.
Backup Option
An optional feature for backing up data to external cloud services is under consideration for trial provision. Please contact us if you are interested.
Eligible Budget Categories (After the Free Trial Period)
- Usage fees can be paid using major internal university funds. Private payment is not permitted.
- Some budget sources may have restrictions on usage purposes. Please consult your department’s accounting staff in advance.

Confirmation of Continued Use for the Next Fiscal Year
This service is provided on a fiscal-year basis, and a new application is required each year.
In January or February, users will receive a notice requesting confirmation of continued use (continue or discontinue).
