Housing

Designed for FacultyStaff

Housing Service is a service that provides a portion of the server room in the North Building of the Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies with installation space, power supply facilities, air conditioning, and information outlets for servers owned by departments and other organizations.

Features

  • Effective use of laboratory space is possible by installing servers in the server room provided by the housing service.
  • Freedom from noise caused by servers.
  • In the event of loss of commercial power, the server can continue to operate by using a room equipped with an uninterruptible power supply.

1. Before using this service

Type of Service

Housing service has three types of services.

  • "Carry-on rack type" which provides rack space to install.
  • "Open rack type" which provides shared rack space prepared by IIMC.
  • "Small device housing type" which enables to install small and low-power consumption devices.

For both facility categories, it is possible to select a computer room from the "Uninterruptible Computer Room" with a power backup function using a private power generator or the "Research Computer Room" that only provides normal commercial power supply.


Rules and Regulations for the Service.

Housing service is provided based on "Regulations for Use and Usage fees of Information Service by Data Center of IIMC, Kyoto University". The details of the usage fees and billing schedule are summarized on the page "Usage fee and Billing schedule". Please refer to the Usage fee and Billing schedule page as necessary.

The terms and conditions of the Housing Service such as applicable users and period of use are established in "Rules for Use of Housing Service".

2. Application for use

User's Guide

User qualification Applicants must meet either one of the following conditions.
  1. Faculty members or any other equivalent persons of Kyoto University.
  2. Any other persons deemed necessary by the director of IIMC.
    Usage Fees

    Users of the housing service are required to pay a usage fee according to the content of the service. This service is not available at private expense.

    The procedure from application to service start is as shown below.

    How to Apply

    We will hold a preliminary consultation before you apply for the housing service. In the consultation, we will explain the details of the service, confirm the configuration and use of the equipment which you plan to bring to the server room, and when you will start the service.

    Please list the equipment which you plan to install in the Housing Equipment Installation List (Japanese only) and submit it by e-mail in advance. It is no problem if some of the details are left blank, but please fill in enough information to give us the overview.

    If you have decided to use the housing service after the consultation, please submit online application form.

    4. Application for continued use or end of the Housing Service

    Users need to apply for the housing service every fiscal year. Please contact us if you wish to terminate the use of the service in the middle of the fiscal year.

    Suppose you wish to continue using the service for the following fiscal year. In that case, We will email the person registered as the representative or contact person around January, and you will be asked to complete the application procedure. If you wish to continue using the service for the following year, please follow the process from the "Application through the Faculty/Staff Portal (Garoon)." Please select "ハウジングサービス 新規/継続申請" for the application type, and enter all the identification numbers associated with the current contract in the "Identification Number" field.
