Please read this at first (PC Terminal Services)

Precautions for terminal use

For first-time terminal users for education

For new students, please first read the "Information Environment Start Guide", which outlines the use of Kyoto University's information environment.

Students often use the "Common Portal for All Students," "E-mail Service for Students," and "PandA," among others, in class, so please read the explanations on the links carefully and use them.

There are two types of PC terminals for educational use at the University: fixed-type and virtual-type. When using a fixed type terminal, please follow the rules of each location, and since the classrooms and seminar rooms are basically for class use only, please follow course instructor's instructions.

The basic operation of each terminal is described in the leaflet.

About where to save files

When you are using a Windows terminal (fixed-type or virtual-type), please save the file either in a document in Explorer (M drive) or in the cloud storage (OneDrive).

When you are using a Linux terminal (virtual-type), please save the file under the Home directory of the file manager, etc. or in the cloud storage (OneDrive).

When you are using a fixed-type terminal, you can save the data to a USB memory stick that you bring with you in addition to the above.

<Note regarding limitation of usage capacity>

Microsoft has notified us of a change in cloud storage total capacity limits after 8/1/2024. As a result, our university has begun limiting individual usage capacity. For details, please refer to Microsoft's information page.

The total amount of space for Windows Documents (Drive M) and Linux Home directory is limited to 5 GByte per person. OneDrive is available up to 100GByte per person, but it is a Microsoft 365 service storage provided as a package for educational institutions worldwide, and may be directly affected and unavailable in the event of a downgrade of the service.

Depending on which location the data is stored, there may be differences in when the data is available for use, etc. Please take care to store important data on your own.

About Printing

All satellite classroom and OSL printer services have been discontinued.

It is possible to use the paid services operated by Kyoto University Co-op (Net Print Service) and the other network print service provided in town. For information on how to use the Kyoto University Co-op service, please refer to the leaflet for multifunction printers at designated locations on campus or the Kyoto University Co-op website.

available time

It varies for each satellite classroom/OSL you are using. In the case of ICT Commons in the Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies South Building, it is usually available from 9:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays.

For users of personal devices other than educational terminals

Our university promotes the use of personal computers (BYOD), so there are many situations where you may use your own devices. You may use adapters to power your devices in satellite classrooms and practice rooms. Please note the following points.

  1. Do not handle power equipment with wet hands

・This can cause electric shock or fire
・Be sure to wipe your hands thoroughly with a handkerchief or towel before use

  1. Do not bring too many non-essential devices into the classroom

・Satellite classrooms and practice rooms are intended for educational purposes
・Charging or using many devices at the same time may exceed the rated current and cause a fire

  1. Ensure the safety of the power supply devices you bring

・Use adapters from reliable manufacturers that comply with the relevant standards
・Devices with current control mechanisms (such as overcurrent protection) are recommended for added safety

Thank you for your corporation.
