Setting up at the First-Time

This applies to the following cases.

  • Setting up multi-factor authentication for the first time after joining a job.

If you have set it up once and want to start over, see 'Initialisation'.

Additional Settings

This is the case if the following symptoms apply.

  • If you are using Authenticator set up in a browser and want to add it to another device.

  • If you are using an Authenticator set up on your browser and want to add it to your smartphone.

Equipment Change

This is the case if the following symptoms apply.

  • If you want to transfer your one-time password settings due to replacement or other reasons

If Authenticator is already unavailable due to malfunction or other reasons, refer to 'Initialisation' to reconfigure the settings.

Initialization

This is the case if the following symptoms apply.

  • The initial set-up was not completed successfully.

  • Cannot log in after entering the one-time password

  • One-time passwords no longer appear in the Authenticator

  • I want to reconfigure it.

  • If you are temporarily unable to confirm your one-time password, e.g. when you are out of the office, try 'One Time Password notified by e-mal'.

  • If you have Authenticator set up in another browser, do not initialise it, but export the account information from the other Authenticator and import it into the faulty one to see if you can log in.
For instructions on how to set this up, please refer to the Manual for "Multi-Factor Authentication Setup Manual Supplement 1 [PDF]".

  • Particular attention should be paid if Authenticator has been set up on more than one device. All one-time passwords displayed on Authenticators other than the browser that was initialised will be invalidated. Please export/import them again.
See 'Multi-Factor Authentication Setup Manual Supplement 1 [PDF]' for setting instructions.

  • If Authenticator itself has disappeared, ">add it and then initialise it.

Set up Notification Mail Address

This address is for cases where the one-time password cannot be confirmed because the smartphone has been left at home or elsewhere, or when the phone is initialised due to a fault or malfunction.

  • Do not register KUMail.

  • Register a private address or other address that can be verified from your workplace.

One Time Password notified by e-mal

One-time password notified by email; it is an eight-digit number and can only be used once within 24 hours.

  • Only available to users who have already set up multi-factor authentication.

  • As this is a temporary method of use, if you are unable to check your one-time password due to a fault or malfunction, please set it up again on your smartphone or browser. See 'Initialisation' for setting instructions.

Preparing for Move or Leave

If you change the PC you use due to a change in personnel, please ensure that the One Time Password can be displayed on the new PC. If you are leaving the university, reset the settings on the PC you were using and confirm your email address for notification in case you need to take over or confirm the password at short notice after you leave.
