Client Certification

Designed for StudentsFacultyStaff

You can easily obtain client certificates issued by the National Institute of Informatics (NII)'s UPKI Digital Certificate Issuance Service.

Features

The following two types of client certificates can be obtained through this service

  • Personal certificate・・・It can be used for authentication when connecting to VPNs and wireless LANs provided by KUINS.

  • S/MIME Certificates・・・It can be used for encryption and digital signatures for university-wide emails (KUMOI or KUMail).

1. Requirements & Rules

  • An ECS-ID or SPS-ID is required for use.
  • The validity period is 4 years and 4 months for client certificates and 2 years and 1 month for S/MIME certificates.
  • There is no limit to the number of certificates for personal identification that can be obtained.
  • The S/MIME certificate is a certificate exclusively for the university-wide email address (KUMOI or KUMail). The number of certificates used at the same time is limited to one, as using multiple certificates at the same time may cause problems (a new certificate can be obtained by revoking the old one).

PIN number (access PIN)
The PIN number (Personal Identification Number) is not distributed by e-mail. You can check it from the 'Kyoto University Client Certificate Issuance Application System' about five minutes after application. Please click on the 'Application Number' displayed after logging in.

If you want to delete a client certificate from a device, select and delete the certificate from the 'Confirmation procedure' in the installation manual .
