Announcement of the End of the Nextcloud Trial Service at Campus ICT Labs
Due to the expansion of storage services provided by the Institute for Information Management and Communication (IIMC), the Nextcloud trial service, which has been offered since 2017 at Campus ICT Labs, will be terminated at the end of December 2025.
The schedule for the termination is as follows:
- End of September 2025: The creation, modification, and deletion of files will be disabled (read-only).
- End of December 2025: Service termination.
- January 2026: All access to files will be disabled.
Please migrate any necessary files to other storage services provided by IIMC. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
Please note that sharing settings from the Nextcloud trial service will not be carried over. Therefore, you will need to re-configure sharing settings for files and folders you copy to the new storage service.
Migration Procedure to RDM Drive
RDM Drive is an online storage service provided by IIMC for storing and sharing research data generated during the research process. If you have handled research data using the Nextcloud trial service, please consider migrating your data to RDM Drive.
While there are plans to charge a usage fee for RDM Drive from fiscal year 2026 onwards, it will be available for free during fiscal year 2025. Please take this opportunity to try out RDM Drive.
Here, we explain how to connect (mount) the Nextcloud trial service as an external storage to RDM Drive and copy data between the servers.
1. Apply for RDM Drive usage
RDM Drive usage application guide
2. Generate an app password in the Nextcloud trial service.
Log in to the Nextcloud trial service, click the name icon in the upper right, and click "Settings.
"Security" -> "Devices and sessions," enter a name like "RDM drive" for "App name" and click "Create new app password."
The password will be automatically generated, so record it.
3. Connect the Nextcloud trial service as an external storage from RDM Drive.
Log in to RDM Drive, click "Settings" from the name icon in the upper right. Click "External Storage" and register the settings as follows.
| Folder name | (folder name to display on RDM Drive) |
|---|---|
| External storage | Nextcloud |
| Authentication | Login and password |
| URL | https://nextcloud.rd.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/ |
| Remote Subfolder | (empty) |
| Secure https:// | ✓ |
| Login | Your ECS-ID or SPS-ID |
| Password | Auto generated password in 2 |
Once you've entered all the information, click the ✓ button on the far right. If a green check mark appears on the left, the setup is complete.
If a red exclamation mark (!) appears on the left, reloading the page in your browser may cause the green check mark to appear. If the red exclamation mark still appears after reloading, please double-check your input for any errors.
4. Inside RDM Drive, copy files from the Nextcloud trial service folder to a new folder for RDM Drive.
Enter the folder where the Nextcloud trial service is mounted.
Since the files and folders within the Nextcloud trial service will be displayed, check the ones you want to copy and click the "Move or Copy" button. (If files or folders that cannot be moved are selected, it will become the "Copy" button.)
Select the destination folder. First, press the Home button to display the home screen, select the RDM Drive folder for the destination, and then click the "Copy to ○○" button. At this time, it is recommended to "copy" rather than "move."
5. After the copy is complete, disconnect the external storage.
Display the settings screen from step 3, click the three-dot button "..." on the right side, and click "Disconnect."
