An introduction to OpenFOAM (Online Seminar)

This course provides training and hands-on practice in OpenFOAM, a toolbox for numerical analysis development and pre-post processing of continuum mechanics, including numerical fluid dynamics.

Requirements

  • This seminar is held online via Zoom. Attendees need to have the following environments.
    • Internet connection
       
      • Fixed line is recommended for the stability of connection.
    • Terminal with mouse and keyboard available(Windows or Mac)
    • Web browser (Chrome is recommended)
  • A Web browser is used to connect to the supercomputer.
  • This seminar is held in Japanese language only.

Ently Qualifications

  • We will carry out the drill with Unix environment, so a minimum knowledge of Unix (shell operations, reading and editing text files) is required.
  • Supercomputer is the candidate for Export Administration Regulations and taking lecture is also subject of the regulations of Foreign Exchange Control Law and relevant law. Program10:00–10:30: Connecting to the supercomputer
10:30–12:00: Overview of OpenFOAM, introduction to its features, and practical session
13:00–14:30: Practical session on mesh generation
14:45–15:45: Explanation and practical session on setting initial conditions, boundary conditions, material properties and calculation control parameters
16:00–17:15: Explanation and practical session on pre- and post-processing and visualisation, plus an introduction to utility tools
