General use

Cache is a process of storing your browsing data temporarily so that your browser does not need to re-download the data, but instead it accesses them more quickly from a local directory.

However, when there is caching data stored, any changes to the webpage are not always reflected straight away due to cache. You can refresh your browser but if this still does not show the most updated content, please try clearing cache.

How to clear your cache

1. Windows

[Windows: Internet Explorer (ver 11)]

Method A
1. Click Tool icon (top right corner).
2. Choose Internet option.
3. A pop-up window appears. Open General tab.
4. Choose Browsing history and click Delete
5. A pop-up window will appear. Tick the box for Cookies and website data.
(You can tick or untick other boxes according to your preference. Please note if the Passwords box is ticked, it deletes saved passwords.)
6. Click Delete.
7. Go to File on the menu bar and choose Exit.

Method B
1. Click Tool icon (top right corner).
2. Choose Safety then click Delete browsing history.
3. A pop-up window will appear. Tick the box for Cookies and website data.
(You can tick or untick other boxes according to your preference. Please note if the Passwords box is ticked, it deletes saved passwords.)
4. Click Delete.
5. Go to File on the menu bar and choose Exit.

[Windows: Firefox]

1. Go to Menu bar at the top of the screen.
2. Choose Tools and click Option.
3. On the left side of the page, choose Privacy & Security from the menu.
4. Go to Cookies and Site Data.
5. Choose Clear Data. A pop-up window will appear. Tick the box for Cached Web Content. Click Clear.
6. Go to Menu bar
7. Choose File then Exit Firefox

[Windows 10: Google Chrome]

1. Go to Menu icon (with three lines or dots on the right top corner).
2. Choose Settings.
3. Scroll the page down and click Advanced.
4. Then Privacy and security page appears.
5. Choose Clear browsing data. Tick the box for Cookies and other site data.
6. Go back to Menu icon then Exit Chrome.

[Windows: Edge (ver 44)]

1. Go to Menu icon (three dots on the right top corner).
2. Click Settings.
3. Choose Privacy & security from the left side menu.
4. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
5. Tick boxes for Cookies and saved website data.
(You can tick or untick other boxes according to your preference. Please note if the Passwords box is ticked, it deletes saved passwords.)
6. Click Clear.
7. Close the browser.

2. Mac

[Macintosh (macOS v10.15) safari (ver 8.0.2)]

1. Go to Safari on a menu bar (Top left of the screen).
2. Click Preferences.
3. A pop-up window appears. Choose Privacy.
4. Click Remove all Website data.
5. Click Remove Now.
6. Choose Safari and Quit Safari.

[Macintosh (macOS v10.15) Firefox (ver 34.0.5)]

1. Go to Firefox (top left of the screen).
2. Click Preferences.
3. Choose Advanced from the menu on the left.
4. Choose Network in the menu bar.
5. Under Offline Web Content and User Data, click Clear Now.
6. Go back to Firefox on a menu bar and Exit Firefox.

[Macintosh (macOS v10.15) Google chrome (ver 39.0.2.71.95)]

1. Go to Chrome on the menu bar at the top.
2. Choose Clear browsing data.
3. Tick the boxes for Cookies and other site and plugin data and Cached images and flies.
4. Click Clear browsing data at the bottom.
5. Go back to Chrome and click Quit Google chrome to exit the browser.

A. There seems to be the case that the AdobeReader wasn't installed in the initial setting in Windows10.

Please check and if it isn't installed, please download from the following link.

https://acrobat.adobe.com/jp/ja/acrobat/pdf-reader.html

If it's installed, please change your IE setting as follows to try again.

Tool in the Internet Explore→Administration of add-on→Display has to be chosen "all add-on"→Invalid the "AdobePDF Reader" in the name column.

Many types of e-Learning courses are provided by Kyoto University such as the e-Learing training service (provided by IIMC of Kyoto University) and training courses on the external system or the original system etc. The attending method depends on each e-Learing course. Please refer to the following instructions to take the e-Learning course you want.

Please contact ICT support center including the name of e-Learning course and a URL for login etc. if you can't log in to the system.

【e-Learning courses on the training support service provided by IIMC (Cyber Learning System)】

e-Learning course to take is displayed in the upper tag after login. Please contact ICT support center if a certain course you want to take is not displayed
because some e-Learning courses require pre-registeration.

【Courses provided for Faculty and Staff (including some graduate students and JSPS research fellows)】
Training for Security Export Control,Clinical Research(iACT),Animal Experiment Training,Laws and regulations related to Life Science Research Basic Training etc.

【Courses provided for freshmen】
Risks and compliance rules in student life (Mental health related course, Forbidden drugs related course, A course about acute alcoholism and about the alcohol related harrassment, How to use bicycles inside the campus of Kyoto University and surroundings, How to write an academic paper)

【e-Learning courses on the external system・the original system】

■Information security e-Learning

Target : SPS-ID and ECS-ID holders

You have to take it once a year.

■Training for proper use of research expenses

SPS-ID user is automatically registered but ECS-ID user needs to be registered as a learner in advance. Please contact the administrative staff in charge of pre-registration.

Please follow the procedure depending on the user's ID category as follows.

【ECS-ID(Account for students)ID,Password】

We will set the new password validation key. Please come to the ICT support center(Academic center for Computing and Media Studies, South Buiding 1F) with your ID aftr filling in the "Application form (Forget password・ECS-ID)"
"Application form (Forget password・ECS-ID)"

【SPS-ID(Account for Faculty and Staff)ID,Password】

We will reissue the notification of your password and ID. Please inquire ICT support center(EXT:16-5323).

When the following errors are displayed on the webpage:

◆ Garbled characters are shown

◆ Images are not displayed

◆ Failing to log on

◆ Updates are not reflected online etc.

it is possible that the browser reads and displays the old temporary file (cache).

Please use the following procedures to delete the browser's temporary file (cache).

Procedures for deleting the browser's temporary file (cache)
■For Internet Explorer 8

After you click on the Internet Explorer icon to start it, choose "Tools" from the Toolbar and then choose "Internet Option".

Then choose "General tab" and click the "delete" button for "record of past searches".

Please check the "Internet temporary files" and click "delete".

After deletion click "OK" and restart the browser.

■For Internet Explorer 7

After you click on the Internet Explorer icon to start it, choose "Tools" from the Toolbar and then choose "Internet Option".

Then choose "General tab" and click the "delete" button for "record of past searches".

Please check the "Internet temporary files" and click "delete file", then "yes".

After deletion click "OK" and restart the browser.

■For Firefox10

After starting Firefox, choose "Tools" from the Toolbar and then choose "Delete recent records".

Click the "¥/" button in case "deleted items" is not displayed under the lower part of the deleted record window.

Make sure a check is set for "cache" and then click on "delete now" button.

After deletion please restart the browser.

■For Safari 2.x

After you start Safari, choose the "empty cache" button from the Safari Menu. Click "Empty".

After deletion please restart the browser.
