Notice of Resumption of Backups of the Supercomputer Systems

publication date : Jan.28, 2022

We have implemented measures to prevent the recurrence of the backups which has been suspended since the file loss incident on December 16, 2021, and we will resume the backups from January 31, 2022 sequentially. Since the file have increased due to the suspension of the backups for a while, regular weekly backups are expected to start in mid-February.

If you would like to review your backup settings, please refer to the manual or contact us with the inquiry form below .

As for important files, you may need to back up your data to another system by yourself. Please keep your files depending on the importance of the data.

Resumption of the backups

From January 31, 2022(in a sequential order)

Improvement of the backup function

Until now, data in /LARGE0 and /LARGE2 have been backuped by synchronizing them with /LARGE1 and /LARGE3 periodically in case of failures. Instead of deleting the files instantly which have been deleted by the backup source at the time of backup, we have modified the function to save them as incremental data of one generation for about one week. The period of time and the number of generations which can be saved will depend on the overall storage usage, however, we consider that it will be possible to keep one generation of data.

As for the cause of the file loss, we have removed the problematic part from the backup program and replaced it with another method which does not involve deletion.
