About troubles to have difficulty in transceiving All-University mails(KUMail) with mail software

publication date : Mar.20, 2015

To all users of All-University mail(KUMail)

There is the trouble to have difficulty in transceiving All-University mails(KUMail) with mail software(Thunderbird, Outlook etc) in some network at the moment.

・Range
The mail software users with the network environment(VLAN setting of KUINS-III:"NAT device" is "Not on use"

・Reason
Due to the change of setting in the All- University mail server for BCP measure on 20th(today), mail server( mail.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp ) IP address was changed to the off- campus address, controlled by SINET( http://www.sinet.ad.jp/ ). And the connection by NAT device was required from VLAN of KUINS-III.
However, there were some VLAN which had the setting not to permit NAT device, which caused the trouble to have difficulty in communicating with these VLAN in the mail software.

・Measure
VLAN management supervisor should submit the application to change the KUINS-DB setting. We announce it to the VLAN management supervisor.

(Caution!!)
Permitting NAT device enable you to connect to off-campus automatically.
Those who limited off- campus connection with your VLAN should be cautious not to specify the host name and URL to off-campus with the software connected to the Internet such as browser or mail client.

In case you want to use All- University mails in a hurry, you can use from the following links, not from the mail software.

Portal(Limited on-campus) : https://www.tam2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp/
Web mail (Connectable from off-campus) : https://mail.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/

We should have let you know in advance. We are so sorry.
