Provision of the temporary storage function for the attached files on KUMail

publication date : Dec. 3, 2014

All users of KUMail

Thank you for using KUMail.
The mail with large capacity files such as movies or digital images causes a heavy load to
the mail server on-campus. Consequently, it might cause some kinds of troubles, as well as
receiving delay. Also the mail with large capacity files cannot be received. This is because
that many universities and companies limit the capacity of receiving mails over several tens MB.
Therefore we will let you know that we decided to add the temporary storage function for the
attached files on KUMail as follows.
Please refer to this for the details. We will be glad that you make use of
the suitable service for various scenes.

【schedule】
Date for the trial use: Dec. 15 (Mon) 12:00~
Date for the full-scale use:Feb.1,2015 (Sun)0:00~

【What's the temporary storage function for the attached files?】
It's the function to store the attached files in the server automatically for the mails with
attached file which exceed the certain capacity. There's no change for the sender's operation,
however, the attached files will be separated from the mails in sending and be stored in the
server temporarily. The URL where the stored files are and the password will be notified to the
recipients automatically, and they download the files from the URL. This function is applied to
the mail with over 50MB at the moment, but we will plan to apply to the mail with over 30MB
in the future. The attached files will be stored for 14 days after sending and recipients should
download the files during the time.(It will be written in the notification mails to the recipients.)

※In using KUMail in the mail clients such as Thunderbird etc, please set the sending server(SMTP)
again as follows;
server name:mail.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp
authentication account: SPS-ID (Account for Faculty and Staff) Example:hanako764kyodai
