IIMC started the provision of "KNIVES(Kyoto uNIVErsity url shortner)", the URL shortening service as a trial.

The URL of groupware or KULASIS consists of long strings of character, which makes us difficult to tell others.

In pasting the long URL in the text of mail, the new line starts in the half of URL. There might be the case that users can't access to the correct URL in this case. Also, in posting the URL in the publishing paper or in the exhibition, we are required to enter the URL in the browser in referring to it. We think lots of users thought that it were the short URL if possible. In KNIVES, users can make such complicated URL short and simple.

Restriction and Caution

• Those who have SPS-ID can register the shortening URL.(Anybody can access to the shortened URL and will be redirected to the one before shortened.)
• Only the domain of Kyoto University(kyoto-u.ac.jp) can be registered.
• You can't register the shortening URL which was already registered by other users.
• Even if the original URL was the same, the new shortening URL will be created in each time.(Not the same URL.)
