About the temporary storage function for the attached files in KUMail

publication date : Aug.24, 2016

Thank you for using the mail service for Faculty and Staff(hereinafter referred to as "Kumail").

We have installed the temporary storage function for the attached files in KUMail as we noticed as of Dec 3, 2015.

This function is applied to the mail with over 50MB at the moment, but we will plan to apply to the mail with over 30MB from Sep 26,2016 in order to reduce the security risks for mail and the load for mail server/network etc.

IIMC provides the various tools for delivering files. Please use them if needed. Please refer to the following website for details.

【About the temporary storage function for the attached files】

It's the function to store the attached files which exceeds the certain capacity in the server automatically.

There is no change for sender's operation, however, the attached files will be separated from mails in sending and be stored in the server temporarily. The URL where the stored files are and the password will be notified to the recipients automatically and they download the files from the URL.

The attached files will be stored for 14 days after sending and recipients should download the files during the time. (It will be written in the notification mails to the recipients.)

※In using the KUMail with the mail client such as Thunderbird, Transmitting server(SMTP)has to be set again as follows. Otherwise, it won't be stored.

The server name : mail.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp
Authentication account : SPS-ID (Account for Faculty and Staff) Example :Hanako764kyodai
SSL required :465 port

※It won't be supported with the following criteria. Please be noted.

  • Senders set the digital signature such as S/MIME etc, in mails.
  • The domain of sender's address(From)is not the one of KUMail (@kyoto-u.ac.jp).

(Ex:In case the domain was changed into @iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp,@mail2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp)
