【Meeting for the utilization promotion of supercomputers】

Supercomputer is a foundation of research and development for creating most-advanced results that becomes the source of competitiveness of our country. That is a vital national backbone technology for the promotion of science, strengthening of industrial competitiveness and securing the safety and security of people's lives. Global competition in development has been intense as it affects the country's competitiveness, and it is considered that the importance of supercomputer is going increasing in the future in various fields including industry. Therefore the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology constructed the innovative High Performance Computing Infrastructure (HPCI) by connecting flagship K computer and other major supercomputers in Japan via high speed network and has been promoting initiatives such as the creation of breakthrough, development of human resources and the formation of the education and research center.

Under such circumstances, as Japan's next leading machine, we started development of post K computer with the performance of 100 times of K computer at the maximum this fiscal year with the aim of sharing start of 2020. It is required to contribute to the development of the competitive supercomputer as well as the solution of social and scientific challenges that our country faces by creating leading achievement which meet the social needs.

Based on this background, we consider that there is a need to promote utilization of supercomputers further and decided to hold an inscribed meeting in order to get the most advantage of the computing resources of our country more than ever.
