Authentication System Utilization FAQ

We considered about introducing the PKI driver software for Linux_64bit_,however, we won't support it at the moment for the following reasons; it costs a lot for developing ,and there are less users than that of Windows and Mac. We are sorry and we appreciate your understanding.

The new IC cards are being introduced to the whole university as one part of an Integrated Authentication Infrastructure. Please definitely use them to develop your department's own services. IC cards are considered part of a 'university-wide information system,' so applications and permission are required for their use. When you have reach the concrete planning stage for your new services, please consult with the ICT support center regarding the content of your services.

Sample software (FCF that can read IC cards is uploaded at the below.

The soft for reading IC Card (Kyoto University internal only)

After downloading the compressed file (ZIP) and decompressing it, look at 'README' and use it.

In addition, to operate this software you will have to buy a PASORI RC-330 or RC-S370 card reader/writer, which is compatible with noncontact IC cards. It costs about 3,000\ in large retail stores. (※On some computer models, this device is already built-in.)

You have to have a printer and copying environment in which IC cards can be recognized. If your department is considering using printers and copiers that can recognize IC cards, please consult with the ICT support center. We can introduce manufacturers to you and give you other relevant information.

There is a software program designed for this purpose. When several registered persons login to and use one particular computer, the programs uses the IC card's noncontact functions and allows an individual user to login. The program also archives this user's history, (The software program is customized for use at Kyoto University.)

See below for information on operation and detailed settings.

Windows7,VISTA

WindowsXP

Please contact the ICT support center to acquire this software program and learn how to run it.

Yes, it is. The integrated Authentication system was specified as all- university information system in all-university information security commitee as of June,2009.

The regulation for the use of all-university information system in Kyoto University is established as of January,2010 based on this.

The integrated Authentication system is the general term for the following;
・Authentication system(Authentication portal system for all students, Authentication system in groupware for Faculty and Staff, Authentication Cooperation system in Educational research community)
・Integrated LDAP server(Database with all-university account and and a part of attribute)、
・Authentication Bureau in Kyoto University(Issuing the electric certificate in the IC card for Faculty and Staff)、
・IC card(Authentication IC card, IC students' card and FCF card)

Please be noted as follows. For detail, please refer to the regulations from the use of all-university information system.
(1)The ID such as ECS-ID(For students) or SPS-ID(For Faculty and Staff), which will be used on-campus, is very important. Please manage it carefully and be cautious not to be used by others.
(2)IC card is also very important to use on-campus. It's not allowed to lend it to others nor use other's card. Also, please be cautious not to loose it.
(3)Please inquire IIMC counter about your anxiety such as the security risks and your loss etc concerning your IC card or ID.

Here we will give you the simplest, most practical way of doing so. Please try to operate and change several parameters. Then create parameter settings that will work the way you want them to. We also describe the settings you should create with Windows 7.

Related regulations are principle policy in Information security measure, regulations, standard of measure, rules to use Information resources, All-university Information system, Guideline of the password for all-university information system users and The Guideline for the unacuthorized program of the all-university information system etc.

They are posted in the following link to check.

Please confirm the content of the electronic certificate with the browser you are using. For example, on Windows Internet Explorer, select: Tools ⇒ Internet options ⇒ Content ⇒ Certificates, and try to display the intended certificate. If the subject heading is groupware ID, then there is no problem.

Please confirm the content of the electronic certificate. The basic certificate is stored on your IC card. When you look at the certification path, the basic certification is guaranteed by an intermediate certification from a higher authority, the Kyoto University Faculty CA (Certification Authority). Furthermore, this certificate is guaranteed by a root certificate (Kyoto University CA) issued by the Kyoto University Electronic Certification Authority. The trustworthiness of the basic certificate is established by verifying this trustworthy path, the period of validity of the certificate, and its revocation situation.

The electronic certificate that is stored in an initial setting on your IC card is something issued by the certification authority of the Integrated Authentication Center of Kyoto University, and it is not something that can be used publicly. Furthermore, regarding the appropriate certificate, the email address you will use is not registered.

Thus, for using S/MIME, you will have to buy a separate electronic certificate.

In addition, S/MIME is restricted as to the type of OS and mailer that can be used with it. For these reasons, we recommend that you obtain a free trial electronic certificate and confirm whether you can use it in your computer environment.

You can use an IC Student ID for use of university facilities, automatic issuance of certificates, electronic money payments at the Kyoto University Co-op, and so on.

In addition, your previous data has been stored in the magnetic stripe on your new IC card, and you can use this magnetic stripe to continue to receive services you have been receiving up to now.

The new IC card is called FeliCa, and data is stored on it in FCF (the FeliCa Common-use Format.) Thus, a management system for building entrance and exit has to have read-write functions that enable it to respond to and read this data. For details, see persons in the departments that manage the buildings you are using.
